Los Angeles, CA. A growing number of Sheriff's and Police Officials have joined the debate over Concealed Weapon Permits (CCW) as shown in an eight minute Full Disclosure NetworkT Video News Blog featuring high ranking sheriffs and police officials of the Western United States. The video is available FREE, 24/7, on demand as a public service.

Featured in the video are Sheriff Joe Arpaio (Maricopa County AZ), LAPD Chief William Bratton, Police Lt. Don Meredith (Glendale, Calif.) L. A. County Sheriff Leroy Baca, Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona, L. A. County Sheriff Captain Ray Leyva, L. A. County Captain Ken Masse (ret), and L. A. County Sheriff Sergeant Paul Jernigan offering their strong opinions, pro and con on the need to issue CCW (concealed carry weapon) permits.

Sheriffs Sergeant Paul Jernigan stressed the need for citizens to defend themselves in times of civil unrest, citing the L. A. riots of 1992 where police and sheriffs were unable to protect citizens and their businesses. Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio goes one step further announcing his new policy, making it mandatory for all his Deputies to carry concealed weapons off duty, instructing them to use if necessary.

Some of these law enforcement officials make compelling arguments in favor of issuing more CCWs and emphasizing the need to have a "right to carry" state policies. Others, defended the need to strictly control, with penalties, citizen access to fire arms.

The Video News Blog provides a striking contrast in between attitudes in Arizona and California law enforcement policies regarding Concealed Weapon Permits (CCWs).

It is illegal to carry a concealed weapon in California without a permit. Permits are issued by the local Sheriff or Police Chief. The criteria for obtaining a CCW permit is based upon the local official law enforcement official's own policy. In most of the United States "right to carry" laws have been enacted.

I do not support a "national concealed carry law". I support the enforcement of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution which guarantees the RIGHT (not privilege which is what a permit is) to keep AND bear arms and makes NO distinction between open or concealed carry.

honest citizens should be allowed to defend themselves from violent criminals not do it after the fact.So I get shot or stabbed and I survive?! then I get a permit? that's backwards and dense. Me and my wife just happened to have survived a home invasion we got lucky and jumped out the 2nd story window. Had we not been able to get out what would have happened? Citizens of moral fiber should be allowed to carry in all states period we are not the problem and i'm tired of these people treating us like we are

Arpiao is an idiot, a dangerous and racist figure. He is dead-on about gun rights though, we ALL should carry legally, if possible. Denied a permit? Carry anyway.

I'm licensed to carry a concealed handgun in 34 states. I was the victim of an attempted murder by an armed perpetrator in 2003. I will not be an unarmed victim ever again. I will not even visit any state where I cannot carry my sidearm, either concealed or in the open. The Supreme Court already ruled that LEO's are not our body-guards. 2A is a right, not a privilege. Many of my children reside in NY...if they want to see me, they know where I live & that I will never set foot in that state ever again, unless I can be armed to protect myself. (NY State is where I was victimized and where I was still denied a permit to possess a handgun after the fact).

All the times I've been to SoCal on business I've always thought to myself "I could really see myself living out here". I love the weather, the laid back attitude of the people, there's good places to eat everywhere, and did I mention the weather? Of course the downside is the overbearing state and local government that wants to dictate every aspect of people's lives. I'd be willing to put up with a little of that, but telling me I don't have the right to defend my life with the most effective tool for self defense (a handgun) crosses the line. Maybe some day CA will get it's act together, but until then I'll content myself with just visiting.

Guns available is good providing background checks are done and they stop releasing the bad guys who are repeat offenders...... And most states when they declare a state of emergency no law abiding citizens ar allowed to have a firearm to protect themselves if they leave their dwelling or business. Imagine a natural disaster or a man-made disaster and you have to leave your home because it's no longer suitable to live in and we all know how long it takes for the government to take care of us and you are not allowed to take any weapons with you to protect your family I think you will find most people are unaware that if they have to leave their house they have to leave all their firearms home they will probably end up being stolen from their houses after they leave by the bad guys to rob anybody who has anything of value so you will find all these poor people who are not able to protect themselves from the bad guys because of a stupid law they will be having all their belongings robbed from them. So you will have mass confusion with only the bad guys having weapons because the state says law-abiding citizens are not allowed to have weapons on them in a state of emergency. I think this is ridiculous but I'm sure the bad guys will love this

During the early '90's when car jacking was happening a lot, I carried a gun illegally for three years (I drove a convertible Corvette). I avoided confrontations. I followed safety rules (I'm a former NRA instructor) and I never felt so safe on the street. Criminals do not want CCP's available because they could be shot. It is criminal to "not" allow it.

Your doing a great service for our people and hope that we can all make a differance. guns don't kill people but they can surely even up the odds. Thank God for our right to bear arms and make the right choices if and when needed. We must be able to protect our loved ones, I know I will
