Los Angeles, CA. A growing number of Sheriff's and Police Officials have joined the debate over Concealed Weapon Permits (CCW) as shown in an eight minute Full Disclosure NetworkT Video News Blog featuring high ranking sheriffs and police officials of the Western United States. The video is available FREE, 24/7, on demand as a public service.
Featured in the video are Sheriff Joe Arpaio (Maricopa County AZ), LAPD Chief William Bratton, Police Lt. Don Meredith (Glendale, Calif.) L. A. County Sheriff Leroy Baca, Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona, L. A. County Sheriff Captain Ray Leyva, L. A. County Captain Ken Masse (ret), and L. A. County Sheriff Sergeant Paul Jernigan offering their strong opinions, pro and con on the need to issue CCW (concealed carry weapon) permits.
Sheriffs Sergeant Paul Jernigan stressed the need for citizens to defend themselves in times of civil unrest, citing the L. A. riots of 1992 where police and sheriffs were unable to protect citizens and their businesses. Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio goes one step further announcing his new policy, making it mandatory for all his Deputies to carry concealed weapons off duty, instructing them to use if necessary.
Some of these law enforcement officials make compelling arguments in favor of issuing more CCWs and emphasizing the need to have a "right to carry" state policies. Others, defended the need to strictly control, with penalties, citizen access to fire arms.
The Video News Blog provides a striking contrast in between attitudes in Arizona and California law enforcement policies regarding Concealed Weapon Permits (CCWs).
It is illegal to carry a concealed weapon in California without a permit. Permits are issued by the local Sheriff or Police Chief. The criteria for obtaining a CCW permit is based upon the local official law enforcement official's own policy. In most of the United States "right to carry" laws have been enacted.

Study the reduction in crimes against individuals when Texas enabled the right to carry (CCW).The big excuse I hear is we will be having shootouts like the wild west,That hasn't happened in any of the Right to Carry states.

Even if there is no statistical proof that allowing regular citizens to travel armed reduces crime overall, it does allow them to protect themselves effectively.

Oh, and that new Orange County "Sheriff-Coroner Sandra Hutchens" is a freakin' joke. She's no sheriff. In fact, she wants to REVOKE the CCW's people already have! She wants NO ONE to have them, period. Who in their right mind would put a sissy like her in that position? Again, a joke.

Yeah, this whole "need a permit with good cause" crap, is crap. I went to the Riverside PD to get a CCW application. Well, not only are the qualifications a joke, it costs almost 400 bucks!! In this economy, who has that kind of cash to give the chief of police? They tell you that only if you've had a threat to your life, or business, you can get a CCW. So I have to have a threat to protect myself? I don't think so! Screw that! No wonder no one wants to even try to apply for one here. What part of "shall not be infringed" don't you law enforcement "officials" understand? Try doing us all a favor, and defending our Constitutional rights, instead of being political puppets!

Lee Baca is a traitorous control freak, and should be removed. We are surrounded by "shall-issue" states that are all happy they are. We must keep pressuring until our rights are no longer oppressed. Recent court decisions support how important this is as a fundamental right. I'll bet LA crime would plummett not only from CCW, but also if Joe Arpaio took over the job of Sheriff. Emough of these elitist politicians blowing off our right to defend ourselves! BTW, I have been shooting guns since I was six years old- never hurt anyone, never wanted to, and probably never will. Nor do I want to be a disarmed victim.

So Mr. Baca in LA County you must first be assaulted before you may carry a concealed weapon very nice while the ones that really matter are not going by the law anyway!

the right to bear arms is supposedly guaranteed...you only have those rights which you claim and defend, for as long as you defend them...if the right to bear arms is guaranteed, why must the government have any say, much less demand that I pay them in order to exercise it????? what of the people who can't afford to pay...they don't get to exercise their right to protect themselves??
THINK, people, about all of the people, not just yourself.

If my government does not trust me with a gun, why should I trust my government?
