This appears, at best, to be gross incompetence on the registrar's part. |

SUPERINTENDENT FORCED TO RETIRE
By AMANDA STRINDBERG
The Orange County Register
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — James Fleming, superintendent of the Capistrano Unified School District, announced today to staff that he intended to retire.
Fleming had admitted in a memo to trustees Monday that his staff created spreadsheets listing parents involved in a board recall campaign and where their children attended school.
Fleming, who met with top staff today, said in a statement that he'd planned to announce his retirement in September.
“It is, in part, because of the hysteria generated over the last couple of weeks that I intend to issue an announcement which had already been planned for several weeks and was scheduled for release in September, after school had opened for 2006-2007.”
The Orange County Register reported earlier this month the compilation of the list by district officials, infuriating recall proponents, and also revealed that district officials had improperly been allowed by the county Registrar of Voters to see recall petition signatures.
Fleming said the data was compiled out of concern that recall proponents were hacking into district computers to obtain e-mail addresses of parents. No signs of hacking could be found, the memo said, and the databases were put away.
A district spokeswoman said the announcement would “most likely” be considered by district trustees when they meet next month. No retirement date was announced.

I can hardly wait for the results of the court. Also the DA office. Congratulations on the continuing coverage. |

We'll see MV | Posted: 06:31 am [PST] on April 20 2006 |
To MV dad,
You bet there will be some candidates running against the current board. I see replacing a board who mortgages current educational facilities for an expansive fifty-two million dollar district office as being the best way to make a positive change for our children. It sickens me that over 50% of our districts classrooms are portables.
The district is claiming that the failed recall is an overwhelming mandate for the status quo. The majority of parents and teachers think that this distrct's administration is heavy handed and mean spirited. You will see change in November. |

The only thing this exposes is the bias of the authors. If the author(s) spent as much time learning how schools (LEA's) operate and the legislative requirements AND restraints, you might actually be able to make a positive difference for our children and our community. This strikes me as poor sportsmanship. Put your effort where your money is and run for electrician with solutions! Nobody likes a sore looser. |

Had it with CUSD DP | Posted: 03:19 pm [PST] on March 28 2006 |
Thank you Leslie for exposing the mismanagement and quite possibly corruption in CUSD, as well as for shining some light on the errors made by the OC Registrar's office in counting the recall signatures. The errors are of great concern to me and many others who signed the recall petitions. I have called all of my OC Board of Supervisors and while they seem sympathetic, they are saying there is nothing they can do, that only a judge can change the outcome - whether through a recount or by validating signatures that were erroneously invalidated. While that may be true, I thought the Supervisors (through the County CEO, who Dave Rudat apparently works for as a Deputy CEO) were ultimately responsible for overseeing the Registrar? If true, they should indeed review his work in this case. The claims are pretty outrageous and are a real cause for concern over the integrity of our voting process here in OC. It makes me wonder how many of our votes were thrown out in other elections for these same reasons.
It will be interesting to see how they respond to you. Thanks for supporting John Q. Public! |

Anthother prime example for everybody being created equal and equal rights. But some people are more equal. And forget your inalienable rights when it comes to the CUSD: these "revolutionary" heads create their own laws and actually believe they are doing the right thing!!!
Isn't there one Trustee that has some honesty and honor left in him/her to uncover what is happening there, before someone else does???? |

The superintendent of CUSD received almost a 9% raise in '99-'00, a 17% raise in '00-'01, an 8% raise in '01-'02, almost 5% in '02-'03, 2% in '03-'04, and over 3% in '04-'05. This is an outrage! This coupled with a new 52 million dollar district office is beyond belief. The CUSD board who voted 7-0 on these issues should answer the questions put before them by "Full Disclosure." We need to replace all of them!! |
