TOUGHEST SHERIFF IN AMERICA ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
Internet exclusive: On Full Disclosure® Video News Program
Video Time: 6:01
Date: Jul 16, 2006

Los Angeles, CA In a two-part interview with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Full Disclosure Network® host Leslie Dutton discovers the reasons why he is considered the "Toughest Sheriff In America" and the only one to be arresting illegal immigrants who are smuggled into his county. A six (6) minute video preview of this interview is available for viewing now, FREE, "on demand" 24/7, as a public service of the Full Disclosure Network®. Also included in the video is an interview with Giles Liddell, II one of the Sheriff's Posse members who explains why he volunteered to arrest illegal immigrants.

Here are some of the issues covered in the one hour interview:

  • Sheriff Joe's Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) background. He is known for his infiltration and investigation of drug cartels and he headed operations in both Mexico and Turkey. He has worked with both the President and Attorney General and dealt with Panama's Noriega and officials in Agentina, just to name a few assignments.
  • Now he arrests Illegal immigrants. Under a new anti-smuggling state law, Sheriff Joe is the only law enforcement offical, arresting illegal immigrants under the new law. He is building new jails to accommodate them and has 3,000 posse members who are authorized to enforce the law.
  • Maricopa County is the nation's 2nd largest Sheriff's Office. He employs 3,500 people, 900 of them sworn deputies. He has 10,750 inmates, many of whom are housed in his infamous Tent Jail City, wear pink underwear and serve on chain gangs in public display as part of a program to deter recidivism. He urges the inmates to "Never come back".
  • Meals for inmates cost 30 cents a day: Sheriff Joe brags that he spends $1.00 a day for meals for each of the rescued dogs and cats that he keeps in air conditioned facilities while the two meals a day he provides to the human inmates only costs 30 cents each, apparently to discourage inmates from returning.
  • Nice Guy or Tough Guy? Sheriff Joe does not want to be called a nice guy he wants to be called tough. However, he has the only jail facility to offer inmates a program to obtain their GED (high school) diplomas. He has an aggressive drug rehabilitation program and parenting classes for them as well.
Hosted by Leslie Dutton, the Full Disclosure Network® is an independent public affairs television program, billed as "the news behind the news" and featured on 43 cable systems and the worldwide Internet. In 2002 the program was presented with a public affairs Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Channels and airtimes can be found on the website.

This full, one hour interview (Programs #466 & #467) is featured in its entirety on 43 cable systems and is available on DVD.

I have mixed feelings about Arpaio. I like the fact that he arrests illegals and that he is using the inmates to run the animal control facility. But it is CLEAR that housing inmates in tents, in summer weather in the desert, constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. Take a look at all the lawsuits for wrongful death and violation of the rights of pre-trial detainees that have been filed against him. That tells you that there is something terribly wrong with the way he runs the jail. Humans must not be treated worse than animals. We need to keep in mind approx. 70% of prisoners in jails have not yet been to trial, and are under the law, assumed innocent.

Hey Laine, I was in Irag for a year. It was 140 every day and I had to dress in full blown uniform including bullet proof vest and helmet. I've never been arrested and I didn't volunteer to go to that hell hole. Go preach your dribble somewhere else. Left wing nut job.

i think this guy is an uptight disgusting excuse for a human being, and he should be forced to spend his golden years in the tents he is so proud of. I bet he beats his wife, too, if supper's not on the table by 5:30

On another note, if we are such a "compassionate" country that tries saving the people of countries who have no interest in being "saved" then why not help a different third world country who is obviously asking for our aid. The hipocracy is mind blowing. On another note, mexicans who are seeking refuge for their lives differ very much than the opportunity given americans who choose to commit crimes. I think harsh treatment on ACTUAL criminals is important.

I think what he does to inmates is fantastic. They are treated in a way that is not brutal, but yet not friendly and gentle. He allows them to obtain a GED to further themselves. As for Janice from Georgia, you are the classic case of ignorance and lack of compassion for those less fortunate. They are trying to come here for a reason... mostly because they are running from the mass murders and kidnappings that happen every day. Even the white stripes are more intelligent and forgiving than you with their words "why don't you kick yourself out, you're an immigrant too"

Joe should concentrate on being a civilized sheriff. Most citizens in jail have not been convicted of a crime. Rather, they are awaiting a hearing or arraignment. In America, a citizen is innocent until proven guilty. Joe just assumes too much and has become what he despises most, a racists politician!
