Why are the people that caused this problem not in jail. We all know why. Shame on our government people who are in charge.

It is difficult to understand how a group of educated people from all walks of life can be so wrong in their thinkings on this subject. If the land is unfit to build on, seemingly the Board of Education would simply veto the project. But looking at the progress with "2011" eyes, perhaps there is a "grave" underlined reasoning tangled here like a spider's web. What an unpleasant thought.

Leslie,
Thank you for being the only one presenting the truth on Bond Fraud (conspiracy to commit grand theft) I wanted to take to the Los Angeles County Grand Jury 10 years ago. Amazing then the cost to taxpayers was $175 million. After I was removed, the spigot opened and another $800 million flowed ($132 million just for remediation that was supposed to cost $2 million).
Times have changed. The public should demand accountability.

Has anyone researched the cost of maintaining a property of this magnitude. It seems as though the state could have downsized a bit and put the rest in escrow for maintenance.

I went to Belmont High in '45 - '46.
Beautiful school with a campanele. The teachers were good as well and seemed to care about the kids. No one knew then about methane gas etc. Too bad. LA is such a miserable place any more.

The New Black Hole of School Construction: its called South Region High School #15 - set to the the greenest school in America come 2012... constuction is just about to start.. this high school is now costing the LA Taxpayers $113 million for the benefit of just 500 magnet students as noted by Richard Vladovic... how can they spend this much money for such a small school, to prove it check these 2 links out from LAUSD own site:
http://www.laschools.org/project-status/one-project?project_number=56.40092

And to prove they are overspending check this out: see that it only took $93 million for the benefit of 2,700 students:
