Los Angeles, CA. Why did the Orange County District Attorney and the California Attorney General decline to prosecute Sheriff Mike Carona? And, after declining to prosecute the Sheriff, who is a State Constitutional office holder, what prompted the Feds to pursue an indictment on alleged political corruption charges? The FULL DISCLOSURE NETWORK® presents an eight minute Video News Blog featuring clips from exclusive post arraignment interviews with the Sheriff, spokesman from the U. S. Attorney's office, Special Assistant District Attorney, and Chairman of the Orange County Republican Party. Here is a sampling of some of the questions raised:

  • Why is this a Federal Case?
  • Who is involved and why?
  • How high up did approval go?
  • Was it President Bush?
  • Was Carona's policy to enforce immigration laws locally a conflict for the Feds?
  • Why did the Feds indict Carona's wife?
  • Was the purpose to force him to resign?
  • Did local politicians want to select his replacement?

FEATURED IN THE VIDEO NEWS BLOG ARE:
Mike Carona, Sheriff Orange County
Anthony Patchett, Former Special Assistant Los Angeles District Attorney
Thom Mrozek, Public Affairs Officer for the United States Attorney
Scott Baugh, Chairman Orange County Republican Party
Leslie Dutton: Moderator

VIEWERS ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN AN OPINION SURVEY:
Following the online video, viewers are asked to vote in an opinion poll on the following questions:

  1. Do you agree with prosecutor Patchett that the indictment against Sheriff Carona is a vindictive ploy instigated by Washington?
  2. Or do you agree with Scott Baugh that this is a local issue of local corruption that-for reasons unknown to us-has become the target of federal prosecution?
  3. Or do you think the sheriff's local political enemies have enlisted the aid of the US Attorney to remove Sheriff Carona so they can appoint his successor?
  4. Do you think Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas and California Attorney General Bill Lockyear refused to prosecute Sheriff Carona because there was no case?

When Carona first ran for Sheriff, he appeared at a local venue. After listening to Carona - speaking in the same room - I did not trust the man. There were lots of clues after that Carona's character matched my first impression.

My impression of Rackauckas is that he was Carona's political buddy, and a dubious character in his own right. I would not expect Rackauckas to prosecute Carona.

Taken together, this means that prosecution could only come from outside Orange County, and only years later than otherwise.

Now I have to go lookup this Patchett character. That he finds Rackauckas above reproach is somewhat curious.

I think perhaps we should give this a second look....

Just the tip of the iceberg. Corruption in government is a fact of life and business. The major obstacle to correcting the problem is that those charged with oversight is part of the problem, i.e... Calif's AG

I'm a big fan of John & Ken on KFI radio, and also the FullDisclosure web-site, who have conflicting views on Sheriff Corona's innocence or guilt. At first, I didn't know which side to take. Until I learned that Sheriff Corona fought against illegal immigration. This explains everything. President Bush has unfairly been using his Department of Justice to advance his personal mission of granting Amnesty to 20 million illegal immigrants residing in the US, which he hopes will result in a "marriage" of North America's 3 main nations. Prosecuting the OC sheriff, the Federal Government reasons, is just another way of working toward this personal goal. The Justice Department has a history of prosecuting and seeking to punish law enforcement officials who would actually enforce immigration laws.

Definitely a Local issue with ties to some in Washington. Of course there is a case, however, the District Attorney and Attorney General oversee the Sheriff's Dept., which means there is a major conflict of interest and involvement. Wonder who is responsible for the bribery of the Sheriff???

John and Ken sunk to new lows when to Dutton. They are all about ratings and using the OC Weekly as their main source on Carona shows how low their credibility is sinking.

Carona's stand against illegal immigration is well known but it is frightening to think that the feds would go to lengths.

1. Disagree with prosecutor Patchett.
2. Agree with Scott Baugh that this is a local issue of local corruption however Federal Laws were at issue not state and local. Read the indectment
3. He is an Elected Republican Politician. I do not think in a Republican strong county this would be the case. He has stunk from day one.
4. He didn't procicute because the infractions are Federal not state or local.
I'm a registered Republican and I think he has shamed the party, the office and the people that elected him.

re; phone interview with john and ken, why did'nt laura dutton, explain how the feds are using john and ken to take away the rights of the sheriff corona, and since she says she 's going to expose john and ken show by shining the light of truth on them but its wrong for them to shine the light of truth on the sheriff corona.
